Infowars was a media platform run by Alex Jones through his company Free Speech Systems. Families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting won defamation judgments in 2022 of more than $1.4 billion in Connecticut and $49 million in Texas over Jones' false claims that the shooting was a hoax[1]. Jones and the company filed for bankruptcy in 2022[1]. A federal judge dismissed the company's case in June 2024 and left the families to collect in state courts[1], and in 2025 a Texas judge appointed a receiver to sell the Infowars assets[2].

The kill shot

The business made money from claims about named, grieving families that it could not defend in court, and the bill dwarfed anything the company held.

When the judge dismissed the company's case in 2024, the company had about $6 million in cash and Jones about $9 million in personal assets, against the $1.5 billion he owes[1].

The inversion

Do not build revenue on assertions about identifiable people that you cannot prove. Liability like that is not a cost of doing business, it is the end of it.
